Sony VPL-HS50 Projector; LMP-H130 Bulb
Clean lines coupled with great functions, the Sony VPL-HS50 was designed to be one of the best network projectors on the market in regards to ease-of-use. It was first introduced to the American public in late 2004 and was a huge hit as models were scooped up until there were no more. Sony stopped production soon after, for what reason, no one really knows, however Sony usually has a short production life for most of its products and usually betters itself with each new model. One of the impressive features of the Sony VPL-HS50 is the contrast ratio of 6000:1, which gives the viewer an incredible experience. The contrast is so strong that it provides extremely dark blacks, giving you the impression that you have absolutely no ambient light in the room. This is coupled with 1200 ANSI lumens of brightness which makes for a beautiful image. The projector lamp that allows this machine to have such a bright picture is a 135W UHP bulb, better known as LMP-H130 . It has an average life-span of 2000 hours, however if you choose to run it in economy mode, you may actually get 3000 hours.
The Sony HS50 also boasts both a Horizontal and Vertical lens shift, which is a pretty good idea when you consider that this is a Network Projector. To explain this notion further, you must understand that this projector can hook up to a series of projectors (other HS50’s) in order to produce multiple images. Very similar to having multiple computer monitors, this projector can either show the same image, or even combine to produce an even larger image when multiple projectors are used. The important thing to note is that the projector must be hooked up by cord, so it is not wireless, so the distance between the projectors is limited to the length of cord used. This is also why the lens shift if so useful since you may have the projectors stacked or even side-by-side.
The HS50 is very quiet with a running noise level of 24 dB, so you will most likely not be disturbed even if you are watching with no sound. The picture is true HD with a native resolution of 1280p x 720p and three LCD technology. The lens comes equipped with a full series functions so that you can truly adjust on the fly and it has every input known to the Audio Visual world.
