BenQ PE7800

One of BenQ’s hot machines is called the PE7800 and it isn’t out of reach with a price tag of around $3000 US. What stands out about the PE7800 is its 2500:1 contrast ratio, not many projectors on the market can boast that.

Blacks are true to the finest detail but don’t even think about turning a light on because the 800 ANSI lumens are laughable. Think about building a theatre room with the proper screen, maybe a DA-LITE Contour to make sure you’re getting the most out of your PE7800. Adding a motorized screen to your theatre is extra fun with the PE7800 due it’s automatic trigger which lowers the screen as you turn on the projector, zoom zoom!

It is a little on the hefty side of course weighing 16.7lbs but it’s nature is to sit in one spot for a very long time and not request a bathroom break. The BenQ PE7800 is a native 16:9 with a resolution of 1024x576 pixels which doesn’t sound impressive but with a little tinkering you can max-out at 1280x1024. Turn it around and you have all the necessary ports including a DVI input. Excluded is S-video, but that’s old school anyway.

The six segment 5x color wheel collects the light and spits out onto the DLP chip so consistently that you won’t notice any silly rainbows and allows for blissful color saturation. One ironically noticeable disappointment with the PE7800 is the “whisper-quiet” fan that is a low 32db. This term is certainly not endearing when trying to listen to ultra quiet scenes.

The price for the PE7800 is getting lower everyday it seems but some sellers are getting away with highway robbery. Make sure you scour the net to find the best deal because the range can vary between $500 to $1000 dollars and sometimes even more. Within this price range though it is a monster of a deal especially considering this is a DLP and you certainly can see the difference. This is why other companies like Panasonic and Canon have to push the LCD technology in order to compete with the beauty of the DLP experience.
